"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked. "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Beginnings

"A blank page or canvas. His favourite. So many possibilities..."

I love the first few days of school. I enter my classroom with a sense of hope and excitement: Who will I teach? What will they be like? How will my year go? The first day of school is all about possibilities; both my students and I want this to be the BEST YEAR EVER. On the first day, that possibility is real.

My students aren't a blank canvas; far from it. They bring their hopes, disappointments, experiences and wonder to our classroom. But our year together starts as a blank canvas. Together, we will create the bits and pieces of our collaboration. They learn. I learn. And with any luck, we will create a masterpiece.

Good luck with the blank canvasness. You sound a great teacher.
